(Nelson, BC – August 18, 2011) Featuring a series of events for the whole family, this year’s Pride week promises to be fun for all stripes!
After fifteen years we’ve finally gotten past that awkward stage, and this year we’re coming out bigger and better than ever! We’ve heightened the atmosphere of awareness & acceptance of the diversity within our community and the integral part we play in the culture of the Kootenays.
New this year will be our first ever Family Day. For the kids: balloon popping fun, magician, face painters, potato sack races, three-legged costume racing, and more! Lots of free prizes and stuff! For everyone: live music and entertainment, vendors, food, crafts and merchandise by The Cottonwood Farmer’s Market (West Kootenay Eco Society). Check it out, 3-6pm, Saturday September 3. This event is absolutely free and guaranteed to be a fun afternoon.
Baker Street will once again be festooned in rainbow flags as the street merchants compete vigorously to win the best dressed window award.
Little Sisters, the legendary Davie Street bookstore, will be sending a whole contingent out from the coast. They will have a table at Family Day and at the Rally.
We are privileged to present Conni Smudge, a consummate entertainer. She’s flying in from the coast to sprinkle her one-of-a-kind glamour around! She will be appearing everywhere.
